The WSSC was created by the Maryland General Assembly in 1916 to provide water and sewerage services to suburban Montgomery and Prince George's Counties. The WSSC produces ten-year water supply and sewerage disposal plans and operates under five-year water and sewer programs, subject to approval by the governing bodies of the two counties.
